Mucuna

Mucuna is a genus of plants in the subfamily Faboideae tribe and Phaseoleae. It has 33 species of climbing vines and shrubs, distributed throughout the world in forest and tropical areas.

Description

The representatives of the genus have palmate leaves, alternate or spiral, and the flowers are typical of the subfamily, indeed similar to those of pea, only older and distinctly curved petals, and these flowers arranged in clusters.

Pollination

These flowers are usually pollinated by bats, ie bats that carry the pollen from the stamens of a flower to the stigma of another while foraging for nectar.

Fruit

The genus has a pod fruit, as is common in your family Leguminosae. These legumes are usually pendulous. In many species, are covered with stinging hairs.
